SERIOUS BEHAVIOR SERIES
This exhibition combines a group of works produced during two
artists residences promoted and produced by the founders of the
Piso collective. They took place at C.E.N.T.A (Portugal), in 2007
and at Vila Nova de Cerveira (Portugal), in 2008. The last one was
the residence "[Space Between - 03] - A SERIOUS GRAVITY" this was
the third meeting in residence for an elastic artistic group of
creators of various disciplines, not only for developing
experimental procedures but as well to focus on critical analysis
of the resulting objects .
The theme that motivated the production of these works was the
multiple meanings that are present in all that was created during
the residence. In this period we were questioned about the use of
absolute and unilateral ideas, a process that has developed on the
basis of experimentation, observation and decision, through imaging
and conceptual dialogue. In this collective process ideas related
to the ambiguity, the absurdity, the irony, the consensus
inconsistency, guided permanently the production.
The „Serious" arises mainly as a provocation, which questions the
norm, the social and labor organization, the places and the
conventional social behavior.
This exhibition also introduces the "AVALANCHE" project, promoted
and organized by the PISO collective, in which methods of creating
with a collaborative purpose will be created and tested. It was
also with this guideline that the gallery space was constructed,
not merely as place for exhibiting finished works, but also were
the display is as important as the videos and, most importantly, a
place that was constructed as a work itself that is able to dialog
and amplify the videos in a prolific sense that way being able to
speak with the public in a less distant way, underlining the
specificities of the individual works.

Our framework considers people’s wittingness, technical skill, and interpretive abilities in relation to the performance frame. Three key categories of behavior with respect to the performance frame are proposed: performing, participating, and spectating. We exemplify the use of our framework by characterizing people’s interaction with a DLA - iPoi. This DLA is based on the ancient Maori art form of poi and employs a wireless, peer-to-peer exertion interface. The design goal of iPoi is to draw people into the performance frame and support transitions from audience to participant and on to performer. We reflect on iPoi in a public performance and outline its key design features."
